QUESTION:
Why is it important to use lubrication? Are there different kinds?
OUR DIVAS ANSWER
Lubrication is very important for many reasons. Your natural lubrication
dries up quickly and sometimes there are times during the month where you
feel more dry than others. You want to reach for a water- or silicone-based
lube, please stay away from any lotions, oils or petroleum jelly. Those
dont wash out easily, wont absorb into the body and can actually harbor
bacteria giving you some nasty infections. You will be able to tell a good
lubricant by its staying power. If you put a drop on your fingers and can
rub them together at least 75 times without becoming sticky, its a good
lube. There are two different kinds of lubricants. Water-based and
silicone.
Water-based lubricants will not stain fabric and will not harm toys,
diaphragms, or condoms. They actually help strengthen condoms! Water-based
lubes can come in liquid or gel form. Liquid lubes have a silky feel, and
gel lubes are a thick, concentrated version of the liquid lubes. Gels are a
little better at staying where you put it.
Many water-based lubes contain glycerin. Glycerin is a type of sugar that
can help a lubricant stay slippery, but too much glycerin can produce
infections in some women. If youre prone to many yeast infections you want
to stay away from glycerin as well because sugar feeds yeast. Look for
lubricants that say glycerin free and check the ingredients list on the
back of the label to make sure. You dont need sugar in the vagina, its
sweet enough.
Now silicone lubricants are a whole different story. Silicone lubricants
are the king of all lubricants. You can rub your hands together for a week
and they wont dry up. They are glycerin free, condom safe, wont stain
fabrics and are safe for most toys. The thing with silicone lubricants is
that you cant use a silicone lubricant with a silicone toy. Silicone
lubricant will melt silicone toys, and may cause the toy to melt to you! So
dont use them together. The upside of silicone lubricants is that they are
definitely long lasting and will actually re-slicken in water, so theyre
great for the pool, hot tub and more.

Lubrication is more important for women than it is for men. The inside of the vagina consists of very delicate skin with lots of tiny blood vessels. During intercourse, this delicate area could be traumatized if there is not plenty of lubrication. Which will cause small tears to the skin and increase vaginal bleeding, vaginitis, as well as allowing for a haven for the spread of STD's. The "normal" vaginal will produce up to 2 tsp. of natural lubricant. Although factors such as age, cycle changes, and even nervousness and metal hang up's will effect this natural production.
There are different type of lubricants. Most doctors will recommend a water based lube such as Slick N Silly or Lucky. Because water based lubes are closer to the natural lubricant and are less likely to prompt irritation. They are also always condom safe! You can also purchase different types of lubricants like flavored lubes, warming lubes and oil based lubes. Oil based lubes are fantastic as well. Boy Butter is one of my favorites although you must remember that oil based lubes are not condom safe.

Yes lubrication is very important. during intercourse or the use of
a toy it cuts down on friction so you are not sore afterwards.
lubrication is even more imporatnt during any anal activity! The anus
does not produce any of its own lubricant. With out lubrication it is a
very easy to rip the anus.
